Privacy Policy - SmileCat: Aligner Tracker

Last updated: September 2026

This policy explains what data the SmileCat app handles, where it stays, and the choices you control. The data controller is First Point (Türkiye).

Summary

SmileCat is built to keep your treatment on your phone. Your aligner wear time, tray plan, statistics, streaks, coins, progress photos and the name you give the app are stored locally and are never uploaded. There is no account and no cloud sync. A few things can leave your device, and each one is either a tap you make yourself or a switch you control.

  • No account, no sign-up, no banner or pop-up ads. The only ad is a rewarded video you can choose to watch in the shop (see below).
  • Treatment data never leaves your device.
  • Reports and feedback are sent only when you tap Share or Send.
  • Anonymous diagnostics can be switched off at any time in Settings.

Data Stored on Your Device

Wear time and tray plan. When you tell SmileCat that your aligners went in or came out, it records those moments in a local database. Your daily totals, streaks, the treatment plan (how many trays, how many days per tray, which tray you are on) and your reminder times are stored the same way.

Progress photos. Selfies you take or pick from your library are saved in the app's private storage on your device. They are never uploaded and are not visible to other apps.

Preferences and rewards. Your settings, the coins you earn, the items you unlock for the mascot and the name you choose for it stay on the device as well.

Reports You Choose to Share

SmileCat can produce a wear report for your orthodontist as a CSV file or, with SmileCat Plus, as a PDF. The file is created on your phone and handed to the system share sheet. You pick where it goes, whether that is a message, an email or a file. SmileCat does not upload the report, does not see the destination and keeps no copy.

Feedback You Send

If you send feedback from Settings, we receive the message you write, the feedback type, an email address if you choose to give one, a screenshot if you choose to attach one, and your app version, operating system version, device model and language so we can reproduce a problem. Your treatment data is never attached. Feedback goes to First Point's own feedback service and is used only to understand and reply to your message.

Anonymous Diagnostics (Optional)

SmileCat uses Google Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to learn when the app crashes and which screens get used. These reports carry the fact that something happened, for example that the aligners were taken out or a tray was switched, and never the value behind it: no wear times, no tray numbers, no photos and no name. Diagnostics are never used for advertising. The only tracking permission SmileCat ever asks for belongs to the optional rewarded video described in the next section.

You can switch "Share anonymous diagnostics" off at any time in Settings under Privacy. Switching it off stops all future collection.

Firebase is operated by Google LLC and processes this data on our behalf. You can review Google's safeguards in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.

Rewarded Video Ads (Optional, Google AdMob)

The shop offers one optional ad: a short rewarded video that pays Smile Coins for the cat's wardrobe, at most three times a day. It plays only when you tap "Watch". Nothing about the ad runs before that tap: the advertising SDK is not started, and no advertising identifier is read.

The videos are served by Google AdMob. When you tap Watch for the first time, iOS asks whether SmileCat may track you across apps; on all devices a consent form is shown where the law requires one. If you decline, the video is non-personalised and you can still earn the coins. When a video plays, Google receives the advertising identifier of your device and standard ad-serving information (the fact that the video was requested, shown and completed, device type, language, coarse location derived from your IP address). Google never receives your wear times, tray plan, photos or name.

SmileCat Plus subscribers never see the ad card. You can review how Google uses advertising data in the Google advertising privacy notice, and change your choice at any time in your device's tracking settings or by reopening the consent form from Settings in the App.

Install Attribution (iOS)

On iOS, once per install and only after you have finished onboarding, SmileCat sends Apple's Search Ads attribution token to First Point's service. The token is an opaque value that only Apple can resolve, and it resolves to a single yes or no: whether an Apple Search Ads campaign led to the install. It names no user and carries no treatment data. It follows the same diagnostics switch, so turning that off also stops it. Apple may additionally send a privacy-preserving install notification of its own to firstpoint.com.tr; that notification contains no identifier and is generated by Apple, not by the app.

In-App Purchases

SmileCat Plus and any item packs are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment happens between your device and the store; we never receive your payment details. The store tells the app only which products you own, and the app keeps that answer on the device so Plus keeps working offline. No purchase carries treatment data, and no third party other than the store is involved. You can restore purchases on a new device from Settings.

Permissions

  • Notifications. Reminders to put the aligners back in, switch trays or use chewies are scheduled on your device. There are no push notifications from a server.
  • Camera. Used only to take a progress selfie. Photos are saved on your phone.
  • Photo library. Opened only when you pick a progress photo or attach a screenshot to feedback. Nothing is uploaded except a screenshot you deliberately attach.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell or rent any data.
  • We do not show banner, pop-up or full-screen ads. The only ad is a rewarded video you choose to watch in the shop, and it never plays on its own.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites. If you allow tracking when the rewarded video asks, Google may personalise that video; declining keeps it non-personalised and changes nothing else.
  • We do not require an account or collect contact details unless you give an email with feedback.
  • We do not send wear times, tray numbers, photos or your name to any third party, including our analytics provider.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your treatment data lives only on your device. SmileCat has no server copy, so your phone holds the only one. You can erase everything with "Delete all my data" on the About screen, or by deleting the app. Feedback you send is kept for as long as needed to respond to it. Diagnostics data is retained by Firebase for a limited period (up to 14 months) and is not linked to your identity.

Your Rights (KVKK and GDPR)

Under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK No. 6698) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to learn whether your personal data is processed, to request access, correction or deletion, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because SmileCat keeps personal data on your device and our diagnostics are anonymous, most of these rights can be exercised directly in the app.

For any request or question, contact the data controller, First Point, at contact@firstpoint.com.tr. We respond within the statutory period (30 days under KVKK).

Children

SmileCat is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them. Younger aligner wearers should use the app under the guidance of a parent or guardian.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves, for example when new features ship. Material changes will be announced in the app, and the date below always reflects the latest revision.
